For example, third-normal form database is also in second-normal form and Database normalization - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. Database normalization, or simply normalization, is the process of organizing the columns (attributes) and tables (relations) of a relational database to reduce data redundancy and improve data integrity. Normalization involves arranging attributes in tables based on dependencies between attributes, ensuring that the dependencies are properly enforced by database integrity constraints. Normalization is accomplished through applying some formal rules either by a process of synthesis or decomposition. Synthesis creates a normalized database design based on a known set of dependencies. Decomposition takes an existing (insufficiently normalized) database design and improves it based on the known set of dependencies. Edgar F. Codd, the inventor of the relational model (RM), introduced the concept of normalization and what we now know as the First normal form (1. NF) in 1. 97. 0. Boyce defined the Boyce- Codd Normal Form (BCNF) in 1. To free the collection of relations from undesirable insertion, update and deletion dependencies; 2. To reduce the need for restructuring the collection of relations, as new types of data are introduced, and thus increase the life span of application programs; 3. To make the relational model more informative to users; 4. To make the collection of relations neutral to the query statistics, where these statistics are liable to change as time goes by. First normal form (1NF). Database normalization is the process of representing a database in terms of relations in standard normal forms. Overview RDBMS-ORDBMS-OODBMS. Normal Forms – 2NF Full functional dependency: An FD X Normal Forms When determining whether a particular relation is in normal form, we must examine the FDs between the attributes in the relation. The relational notation which we will be using takes the form R1 = (Employee 5. 19 is shown as having different addresses on different records. Until the new faculty member, Dr. Newsome, is assigned to teach at least one course, his details cannot be recorded. All information about Dr. Giddens is lost if he temporarily ceases to be assigned to any courses. When an attempt is made to modify (update, insert into, or delete from) a table, undesired side- effects may arise in tables that have not been sufficiently normalized. An insufficiently normalized table might have one or more of the following characteristics: The same information can be expressed on multiple rows; therefore updates to the table may result in logical inconsistencies. For example, each record in an . If the update is not carried through successfully. Specifically, the table provides conflicting answers to the question of what this particular employee's address is. This phenomenon is known as an update anomaly. There are circumstances in which certain facts cannot be recorded at all. For example, each record in a . This phenomenon is known as an insertion anomaly. Under certain circumstances, deletion of data representing certain facts necessitates deletion of data representing completely different facts. This phenomenon is known as a deletion anomaly. Minimize redesign when extending the database structure. As a result, applications interacting with the database are minimally affected. Normalized tables, and the relationship between one normalized table and another, mirror real- world concepts and their interrelationships. Example. IDTransactions. Jones. 1Tr. IDDate. Amount. 12. 89. 01. Oct- 2. 00. 3. IDDate. Amount. 12. 89. 81. Oct- 2. 00. 3. IDDate. Amount. 12. 90. 71. Oct- 2. 00. 3. The automated evaluation of any query relating to customers' transactions therefore would broadly involve two stages: Unpacking one or more customers' groups of transactions allowing the individual transactions in a group to be examined, and. Deriving a query result based on the results of the first stage. For example, in order to find out the monetary sum of all transactions that occurred in October 2. Transactions group of each customer, then sum the Amounts of all transactions thus obtained where the Date of the transaction falls in October 2. One of Codd's important insights was that this structural complexity could always be removed completely, leading to much greater power and flexibility in the way queries could be formulated (by users and applications) and evaluated (by the DBMS). The normalized equivalent of the structure above would look like this: Customer. Cust. IDJones. 1Wilkins. Stevens. 3Cust. IDDate. Amount. 11. 28. 90. Oct- 2. 00. 3. The data structure places all of the values on an equal footing, exposing each to the DBMS directly, so each can potentially participate directly in queries; whereas in the previous situation some values were embedded in lower- level structures that had to be handled specially. Accordingly, the normalized design lends itself to general- purpose query processing, whereas the unnormalized design does not. The normalized version also allows the user to change the customer name in one place and guards against errors that arise if the customer name is misspelled on some records. List of Normal Forms. Hi all, I am trying to create a VBScript that will uninstall multiple (13) applications silently (preferably uninstalling one after another continuously as. For example, you can use scripts to create shared folders. But what if you want to set the offline folder options for that share? This procedure cannot be scripted using WSH or WMI. Instead, you must configure offline folder options using either the GUI or the Net. For another, there is no reason to write a script if a tool already exists that fills your needs. Suppose you want to see the list of files that are stored in a folder on the local computer. You can spend the time creating a script to return this information. Alternatively, you can simply type dir at the command prompt and be done with it. Using WSH scripts to help automate tasks does not require that you abandon the command- line tools or batch scripts that you currently use. If you have a batch script that performs well at a given task, there is no reason to create a WSH script that performs the same task. On the other hand, you might want to augment the capabilities of a batch script with capabilities available only in the WSH scripting environment. For example, you might have a disk cleanup utility that you want to run only if free disk space falls below a specified level. It is possible to create a batch file that can determine free disk space and then decide whether to run the cleanup utility; however, the procedure for creating such a batch file is not particularly straightforward. By contrast, this same task can be accomplished quite easily in WSH: You can use the File. System. Object or WMI to determine the free disk space and then either run or not run the disk cleanup utility. One of the advantages of using WSH is that you do not have to choose WSH or choose batch files and command- line tools. The two approaches are not at odds with one another; instead, they complement one another. For example, you can use the Wsh. Shell Run and Exec methods in scripts to incorporate existing batch files or command- line tools. Although running command- line tools and running batch scripts are important uses of the Run and Exec methods, these methods are not restricted to running a particular type of program. The Run and Exec methods enable your scripts to run any Windows program, including GUI applications. In addition, you can also run other scripts from within a script. Comparing Run and Exec. The fact that there are two ways to run programs from a script leads to an obvious question: which method should you use in your scripts? The answer to that question depends on the script and what it needs to accomplish. A script can use either the Run method or the Exec method to run a program in a manner similar to using the Run dialog box from the Start menu. Regardless of the method used, the program starts, and runs in a new process. However, when you use the Run method, your script will not have access to the standard input, output, and error streams generated by the program being run. A script cannot use the Run method to run a command- line tool and retrieve its output. For example, suppose you want to run Ping. This cannot be done using the Run command. Instead, you would need to ping the computer, save the results of the ping command to a text file, open the text file, read the results, and then parse those results to determine the success or failure of the command. The following script uses the Run method to call Ping. The script opens and reads the text file, checks to see whether the command succeeded (by determining whether any of the lines of output begin with the word Reply), and then closes and deletes the temporary file. Set obj. FSO = Wscript. Create. Object(. If you need access to command- line output, you should use the Exec method instead. The following script also parses the output generated by Ping. However, it does so by using the Exec method and by directly reading the output. There is no need to create, open, read, and delete a temporary file, and the script is only 9 lines long, compared with the 1. Run method. Set obj. Shell = WScript. Create. Object(. However, the Run method is still useful in a number of situations: You might want to run the application in a specified window type, such as a minimized window. Exec offers no control over window style; Run offers the options listed in Table 3. You might need to run a script on computers that do not have WSH 5. Exec is supported only on WSH 5. You might want to wait for the application being called to finish running before the script resumes. This can be done with either Run or Exec but requires less coding with Run. Running Programs. The Run method accepts three parameters. The first and only required parameter is the name of the program you want to run. If the program is in the same folder as the script, or if it is located within the computer path, you need enter only the name (for example, Calc. Otherwise, enter the full path to the program (C: \Admin\Monitoring\Disk. Space. exe). The second parameter is an integer that indicates the window style with which the program should begin (assuming the program has a window). The window style determines such things as whether a window will be the active window or be maximized. Table 3. 9 lists the integers that Run accepts as a second parameter as well as the corresponding the window styles. Table 3. 9 Integers Accepted by the Run Method for the Window Style. Integer. Window Style Description. Hides the window and activates another window. Activates and displays a window. If the window is minimized or maximized, the system restores it to its original size and position. An application should specify this flag when displaying the window for the first time. Activates the window and displays it as a minimized window. Activates the window and displays it as a maximized window. Displays a window in its most recent size and position. The active window remains active. Activates the window and displays it in its current size and position. Minimizes the specified window and activates the next top- level window in the Z order. The Z order is nothing more than the list detailing the order in which windows are to be activated. If you press ALT+TAB, you will see a graphical representation of the Z list. Displays the window as a minimized window. The active window remains active. Displays the window in its current state. The active window remains active. Activates and displays the window. If the window is minimized or maximized, the system restores it to its original size and position. An application should specify this flag when restoring a minimized window. Sets the show- state based on the state of the program that started the application. For example, the script in Listing 3. Notepad. In line 1, the script sets the MAXIMIZE. In line 3, the script uses the Wsh. Shell Run method to start Notepad, passing it the MAXIMIZE. For example, Control Panel (Control. The Run method also accepts a Boolean value as a third parameter that determines whether the script pauses until the called program is finished running or instead continues with the next command in the script. If this value is set to False (the default), the Run method simply issues the command to run the program but does not check to ensure that the program actually ran. If the third parameter is set to True, the script will wait for the program to finish running, return the integer exit code provided by the program, and then continue with the next line of the script. If you set this value to False, you can run multiple programs at the same time; the script will start program A and then immediately start program B, even though program A is still running. This can enable your scripts to complete faster. However, it can also lead to possible problems: For example, what if program B cannot be run until program A has finished? If you are worried about possible . In that case, program B will not start until program A has concluded. For example, this script runs Calculator and then waits until Calculator has been closed before proceeding. If Calculator is never closed, line 3 of this script will never execute. Set obj. Shell = WScript. Create. Object(. For example, suppose you run the preceding script and then manually start a second instance of Calculator. If you close this second instance, the script will not respond. Instead, it will continue to wait until the initial instance of Calculator, the one started using Run, has been closed. Running Command- Line Tools. Although both Run and Exec are well suited for running GUI programs from scripts, you are unlikely to call many GUI programs from within a script. After all, the basic idea behind most system administration scripts is to carry out a task without the need for any human intervention. Because GUI applications typically require human intervention, about the best you can do within a script is open the application; you are very limited in what you can do with the application after it has been opened. This is not true for command- line tools, however. Most command- line tools are designed to run in automated fashion; after they have been started, there is no need for any human intervention. The tools start, perform their appointed task, and then terminate. Both the Run method and the Exec method can be used to run command- line tools, although in either case you should use a slightly different syntax from the one used to run GUI tools. When you run a command- line tool using either of these methods, you should always preface the tool name with one of the following: The %comspec% variable is an environment variable that specifies the command- line processor. By using %comspec%, you can create scripts that run on both Windows 9. Command. exe) and on Windows 2. Cmd. exe). The %comspec% variable is not required; however, it does provide a way for a the command window in which a tool runs to remain on the screen. This means that you might not have time to view the output generated by that tool.)Including %comspec% is also the only way to run command- line commands such as dir. Dark Tranquillity - Encyclopaedia Metallum: The Metal Archives. Dark Tranquillity The Gallery 5.0 classic Review by Kyle Ward EMERITUS September 23rd, 2008 . Character Damage Done Haven Projector discussion On 156 Music Lists Comments: Add a Comment 1 2 3 4 5. 42 Next Crysis Emeritus. Dark Tranquillity - The Gallery (album review 3)Back in 1. Dark Tranquillity played a rather unknown sub- genre of metal, one known as Melodic Death Metal, taking the harsh vocals of typical death metal and wrapping them around harmonized guitar leads and very melodic solos, creating an experience quite unlike anything anybody has heard before. At this time in their careers, Dark Tranquillity also did not feature a keyboardist, making the music much more raw sounding, and taking away that sometimes cheesy electronic effect and replacing it with simple, pure, and totally awesome riffing. This is also the first full length album after vocalist Anders Friden departed from the band to join fellow Melodic Death band In Flames as their vocalist. So, stepping away from his former role at guitar, Mikael Stanne now took over the microphone as the band's vocalist, marking a significant point in the band's history. This album is, along with In Flames' 1. It opens with a very fast, very melodic, in your face riff. This is the riff which got me to even think about buying this CD, and I along with almost every other person who has heard this song just sit in awe at how DT could come up with riffs like this so early in their career. Harmonized guitars pick along, creating a musical heaven as the song unwinds. Stanne's vocals come in, raspy and desperate, with so much emotion in it, especially in the unforgettable chorus, with another amazing riff backing the vocals. The pace in this song is unrelenting, it seems like one giant solo with some vocals thrown on top. The drumming of Anders Jivarp is spot on and fast, keeping the tempo up very well. I hadn't expected the mix of harsh vocals and highly technical and melodic guitar leads which caught on like no other album had done to me before. With this kind of guitar playing, you actually enjoy that the keyboards are absent, because it just makes the experience so much more surreal and unrefined. This CD contains what I think is Stanne's finest vocal performance, as his emotion is unmatched by anything the band has ever done before, except maybe by the final track on . There are some piano notes put in at the end, which close the best opener on any Dark Tranquillity CD. This song is very emotional and well thought out, they convey a lot in the short duration of this song. The riff is simple but effective, taking you to another world altogether. This song drags you in, making you want to listen to more of it. The vocals are the highlight on this track, being slower and more depressing, with some whispered lines also thrown in. The other guitar and the rest of the instruments pick up the pace, before Stanne unleashes a drawn out scream, then gets right into the verses. This is a good point to mention the lyrics, and how they set DT apart from other Melodic Death bands. DT writes some of the most dark (but not in a Black Metal type way) lyrics I've ever read, being very sad and giving the music an atmosphere which sets it apart from anything I've heard. Awesome writing on behalf of the band. The piano comes back in the middle, but its not overbearing or too electronic sounding, just a straight forward piano. The guitars go into a cool solo, before the vocals kick back in. The next track, . It begins with a SWEET riff, which is hard to describe, but its slower paced. The chorus is great, and that riff from the beginning comes back into play here, before another one takes over. The riff changing on this CD is flawless, you never really notice and point out . The blend in their changes seamlessly, but throw in enough variety to keep you occupied and never bored. It's really amazing to listen to this album, and to listen to it in one sitting is quite the experience, capturing all the mood changes and the seemingly endless guitar riffs and song variations. The end of this song is fast and desperate, and at this point you are really into this song, before it ends quite abruptly, and a change in pace is quickly introduced. Acoustic guitars are incorporated into the song, and what really sets it apart, and the thing which caught me off guard, were the female vocals in the middle. Never ever had I heard female vocals used in a metal album, let alone ones that I love to listen to. The singer sings in a wonderful voice, and it really is depressing and is one of the most emotional sections of this entire CD, with Stanne whispering after this happens, before going into a sweet solo, one of the longest solos on the CD at that. This is the way to write and execute a title track, and it deserves the name it's given in every way. This song really is a gallery of everything Dark Tranquillity can put forth. With some cool guitars at the beginning before the vocals come in. Stanne's vocals are fast and go along with the beat, making the vocals seem like an instrument. Classic Dark Tranquillity right here, a great song, one of those ones which you really enjoy even thought there is no blazing solo or an ultra- melodic riff, just the atmosphere of this song and the way it's performed just pulls you in. This song here is one of those songs, like I described before, where it seems like the band knew you when they wrote it. I can relate with every line of every verse in this song, and I will go ahead and say this is Stanne's best vocal performance on any song, ever. He throws his emotion into this one, making this at the top of my list of songs I want to see live. The song is full of thought out lyrics about an unattainable love, though he does not really come out and say what it is, Stanne puts out great lines such as . It may take a certain person to appreciate this song, but if you do it will come to represent your life, if not it may just be another song. Not for me though, and this whole story of a track begins with Acoustic guitars picking away a somber chord, setting the tone as one of sadness and hate. Just close your eyes here and take it all in, knowing the feelings that simply this single chord throws out there. The guitars come in abruptly, along with Stanne screaming out like I've never heard him do before, almost gasping as he searches for more energy to express this song and what it was meant to mean. The guitars are melodic and somber. It's hard to put to words how this song makes me really feel, because it directly relates to what is going on with my life. There is nothing more to say about this song, you have to hear this to get what I'm saying here. This is truly a song which you can feel. The pace is fast, the guitars are melodic and well played, and the vocals are top notch. There are a lot of riff changes here as well. With Stanne screaming his heart out, you get breaks only through a few spoken lines in the middle. The riffing on here is like . Some lines of acoustic guitar interlude at the bridge, with the electric guitars slowly fading them out, returning the vocals in. The last few minutes of this song are fast and unrelenting, ending with one of my favorite riffs on this CD, even though the riff only lasts about 2. Ending . It reminds me of a tune you would listen to on a march to your death, with deep drums backing the somber, repeating riff of the acoustic guitars. The pace quickens as the track goes on, before finally the drums quitting out, and the guitars repeating the same simple riff, which slowly fades out into the real monster which is the last track.. It is a definition of how to do a song right. The riff is mind- blowing, I like it better than the opening one on . The vocals and lyrics are thought out and hold meaning, surrounding the riffs and drumming flawlessly. The dark atmosphere reminds you of.. The female vocals come in again, sounding amazing yet again, very epic and getting you really into this song. Stanne and the singing vocals overlap as Stanne lets out a vicious scream, before breaking into more desperate cries of long forgotten calls of help. The lyrics are sad and tell an equally sad tale, just wrapping up into a classic song, no doubt about it. The best part was I had no idea that this song would be what it turned out to be, which made it that much greater. To this day I still get chills down my spine listening to this song, its that great. I will go as far as to even say this CD is better than . I own both of them and I can honestly say this album did a lot more and made me feel like I actually just dove into the mind of the band. I know I will most likely get some s**t for saying that, but this is my honest opinion. There is nothing out there which can compare to the feeling I had inside myself when this CD ended. I never felt more alive than I did at that moment, and it shocked me because a piece of music has never done that to me before. It literally took my breath away, and I couldn't really say much afterward, because life was one big blur, and in the middle was . This is the longest I've ever taken to write a review before, because its hard to convey my feelings to words in regard to this album. It really has to be heard in its entirety to be understood, and if it hits you like it did me, you will know what it means to love an album. Recommended Tracks. Lethe.. Of Melancholy Burning. Over the years she's gotten Max to sing—even before he had a whole lot of words—and made up awesome songs involving his obsessions including purple, spaghetti and Lightning Mc. Queen. She recommended a music therapist who runs a business hiring other ones out. She had someone great in mind. The price: $1. 25 for a half hour. Whoa. A couple days later, I got an email saying after careful consideration she'd reduced her price for all families to $9. Better, but I really wanted Max to have at least 4. In the end, we landed at $1. And the new therapist is awesome. Therapists are amongst the most important people in Max's life, the ones who coax him to articulate sounds and move his hands and limbs in new ways. When compared to the Fireguard Drywall Repair Plug, a drywall patch (sometimes) takes longer to install. For Example: In an operating room a door knob hole can be plugged with hot mud at 8am, sanded and another coat (if needed) at 9am, sanded and Fire. Intro: Patching a Large Hole in Drywall So you somehow got a large hole in the centre of your drywall. The Drywall Repair Plug is not a drywall patch or kit. Unlike a drywall patch that hides the damage, the Drywall Plug is like a presto type patch that actually plugs the hole! Because this is not a kit, there is no need to pay for extra unnecessary items.
How to Fix Drywall Holes. Tough as it is, drywall can withstand only limited abuse. A door flung open with too much force can produce a doorknob- size hole in the wall. This kind of damage looks bad, but even large holes are easy to fix. The easiest way is to purchase a drywall repair kit. Measure the hole, and visit your local hardware store or home improvement center for a kit. There are various sizes and types for different applications. For example, a drywall patch for a ceiling is thicker than one for a wall. Before you use the kit, remove any loose paper or plaster around the edges of the hole. Then apply drywall patch, following the manufacturer's instructions. In this article, we'll tell you how to fix both a small and a large drywall hole. We'll start with a small hole. Fixing a Small Drywall Hole. To make a repair to a small drywall hole without a kit, follow these directions: Step 1: Prepare tin can lid that is at least 1. Use keyhole saw to cut out narrow horizontal slit in wall on each side of hole. Measurement of hole plus both narrow slits should equal diameter of lid so you can insert lid sideways into hole. Step 2: Use awl to punch two holes in center of lid. Thread 1. 2- inch piece of wire or string through holes. Step 3: Holding ends of wire, slide lid through slit. Still holding wire, pull lid toward you until it's flat against inside of wall. To hold in place, set stick of scrap wood over hole on outside of wall and twist wire tightly over stick. Can lid should be held firmly against inside of wall. Step 4: Use putty knife to apply premixed drywall patching compound over patch following manufacturer's instructions. Pack compound or plaster into hole against backing and behind stick. Keep compound inside hole, cover backing, and fill slits, but don't spread it on wall surface. Leave patch slightly low, and don't try to level it. Let patch dry until it turns bright white, typically at least 2. When dry, cut string or wire and remove stick. Step 5: To finish patch, fill it completely with more plaster of paris or drywall patching compound to make patch level with wall surface. Let dry, lightly sand area, prime, and paint. In the next section, we'll get more ambitious and find out how to fix a large drywall hole. How to Repair a Medium- Size Hole in Drywall. Repairing drywall is a great do- it- yourselfer task because tools and materials are cheap, and there’s very little risk (to you or the house). Plus, if you can master the repair, it’s a skill that will serve you well no matter if you own or rent. So before you call the local handyman next time, give yourself a chance to tackle this basic, home improvement project. Editors Note: This is a great tutorial that I put together in March of 2. Best of OPC section found in the right sidebar. If you read through the comments, you’ll find some alternative drywall repair suggestions, and some of them are valid options. However, the method I describe here is tried- and- true, and it results in a flawless, durable patch every time. Furthermore, a number of drywall contractors confirm that this is how they tackle a medium sized repair. Materials List. Drywall (see below)Mesh tape (see below)Setting compound (see below)Backer boards (see below)1- 1/4. Purchase a piece bigger than the hole because you’ll be squaring it out (and making it slightly larger). Home improvement centers often sell 2 x 2. Drywall is commonly available in 1/4. Most interior walls have 1/2. Paper tape is another alternative, and it results in a stronger joint. If you expect any sort of movement or stress on the joint, paper tape will better resist cracks. If you use mesh tape, I recommend avoiding the pre- mixed joint compound (more on that next). Setting Compound: Setting compound (or hot mud) is a powder that comes in a bag and needs to be mixed with water. Unlike joint compound which dries through evaporation, setting compound dries through a chemical reaction, shrinks very little and dries very hard. Setting compound is differentiated by drying time (in minutes), and you’ll find 5, 2. Setting compound is nice because you’re able to apply a second coat without waiting too long. I purchased an easy- sand, 5 minute compound. If you’re a novice to patching drywall, go with a longer drying time. Backer Boards: Repairing a medium- sized hole in drywall calls for adding a new piece of drywall. To secure this new piece, you’ll need some sort of backer boards, and I used small pieces of 1/4. I’d guess the previous owner opened to door too hard, and instead of repairing the damage, covered it with a plastic wall bumper. Cutting a circular (or other oddly shaped) piece of drywall is tedious. Instead, I like to widen the hole into a square or rectangle. I recommend scoring the edges with a utility knife before you start sawing. Step 2: Secure the Backer Board. This is a medium- sized hole, and it’s impossible to simply fill the void with compound. I need to add a new piece of drywall, and to fasten the drywall, I need some sort of backing or furring strip. To accomplish this, I slide a piece of 1/4. For this hole, there is a stud nearby so I cut the drywall to expose half the stud. This gives me a nice nailing surface of the left side. Now I just secure my backer board to the right side. Step 3: Cut a New Piece of Drywall. Use your utility knife and/or drywall saw to cut a new piece of drywall that fits into the hole. Step 4: Cover the Joints with Tape. I covered the entire new piece of drywall and all the edges with mesh tape. Often you’ll see people cover the screw heads too (which is fine but I didn’t). Step 5: Mix Compound and Apply First Coat. It doesn’t take much compound to cover a hole like this. I mixed a little powder and water until the compound had a thick, “mashed- potato” consistency. This is important because if the compound is too wet, it’ll result in a poor bond. Sloppy mud is also a pain to work. Keep adding powder (or water) as necessary until your satisfied. Using the 6. Make sure you embed all the mesh tape, and try to eliminate any air pockets. Step 6: Second Coat. While the first coat dried, I mixed up another small batch of compound. I didn’t bother to sand in between the first and second coat, using my knife to check for any high points. If you’re really good at patching, you can finish everything off in two coats. I fully expected to need a third coat. After the second coat dried, I used 1. The goal is to create a seamless transition so you’ll never know the wall was damaged. Step 7: Final Coat. When you apply the final coat, try to make it as smooth as possible. It’ll save you from having do a lot of sanding. Step 8: Sand Smooth. Feather all the edges by sanding them smooth, and give the rest of the patch a once- over to eliminate any dimples or ridges. Feel everything with your hand to make sure it’s all even. Step 9: Prime. It’s really important to prime your drywall repair because compound will absorb paint differently, and even if you did a good patch job, without primer it’ll be obvious. Step 1. 0: Paint. We keep a little leftover paint for each room for just this purpose. I like to roll the paint because I can notice brush strokes, and again that’s a giveaway that you patched the drywall. Rolling the paint gives it the same texture as the rest of the wall. If you enjoyed this project, why don’t you check out the other home improvement how- tos available in the Project Guides section.
